Beginner and Intermediate Rock Climbing

Guide's Choice: The Gallatin Tower Summit Climb

The Summit Climb is Montana Alpine Guides' most popular half-day climb and is an outstanding climb for the first-time climber. We have guided climbers as young as 5 and as old as 70 on this climb, and we would enjoy climbing with you too. We have an impeccable safety record, with no accidents in over 1,000 trips. The cost of the outing is $75/climber.

Beginning Climbing Class

This climbing class is most useful for those who have already tried climbing and want to learn the climbing craft and eventually will climb on their own. The beginning of the class is spent mastering knot tying, belaying, rappelling, climbing techniques, and safety. The rest of the class is spent practicing the techniques on some challenging climbs. The cost is $75/climber.

Ascent of Skyline Buttress

The Guided Ascent of Skyline Buttress is a beginner to intermediate climb of the longest route in the Gallatin Canyon. This is a three quarter day private ascent. The climbing is uncomplicated, but the exposure level is high, due to the position of the buttress above the valley. This climb is for the adventuresome beginner or intermediate climber. The cost is $125/climber and the group size is limited to three.

Ascent of The Waltz

The Waltz is one of the Gallatin Canyon's oldest climbs. It is an intermediate half day climb which wanders its way up the first two tiers of this beautiful tower and ends with a long rappel back to the ground. Follow a leader, learn the basics of taking out protection, and have an enjoyable half day. The cost is $85/climber and is limited to a maximum of three climbers.
